Integraded Actuators Laboratory at EPFL  (04/2024 - PRESENT)

Since April 2024, I am working as a Research Scientist at the Integrated Actuators Laboratory (LAI), EPFL.

Research topic: Smart Footwear for Diabetic Foot Care and Ulcer Prevention.

Every 20 seconds, a person with diabetes has to face an amputation somewhere in the world. The main risk factor is high plantar pressure combined with foot insensitivity. In this project, the main goal is to develop a intelligent device in the shape of a shoe that can autonomously redistribute and offload peak pressure points in the foot.

Ph.D. Student at Tokyo Tech (04/2021 - 03/2024)

I was recommended by Mexico's Embassy as a MEXT scholar for a Mechanical Engineering Doctoral degree at the Mechanical Systems Design Laboratory, Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Research topic: SMA actuator using thermal fluid. Studying the development of an actuator that uses Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) wires and a heated liquid to produce work. This kind of actuator can potentially produce large output forces with a small volume and can be activated without the usage of electricity, opening the possibility of electronic-less robots and devices. Aditionally, the liquid can be heated with a temperature gradient which can be used for binarly activating specific sections of the whole material, thus being able to design the input / output curve. This can be used as a mechanical compensation technique for enhancing output linearity.

Conferences:

Air Liquide (12/2021 - 07/2022)

During the first year of my Ph.D., I participated in an internship in the company Air Liquide, in the Tokyo Innovation Campus, in the Material Science Group.

I worked on the design and construction of two test benches: for advanced materials for CO2 capture, and for fuel cell experiments:

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Volunteer (06/2021 - 08/2021)

I participated as a volunteer in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic games in the Language Support Team.

My role was to provide Spanish to English, English to Spanish, Japanese to English, or English to Japanese support to athletes during their interviews with TV broadcasting, mixed zone, and written media. Also, to provide language guidance to athletes during medal ceremonies and doping control.

My main venue was Yumenoshima Archery Park where I helped during the archery competition. But I also helped in other sports such as Football Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Weightlifting, Canoe, and Table ping-pong, among others.

Master & Research Student at Tokyo Tech (04/2018 - 03/2021)

Mexico's Embassy recommended MEXT scholar for a Mechanical Engineering Master's degree in Tokyo Tech with specialized studies in Parallel, Space, Fluid and Control Design of Robotics; Mechatronics, Mechanical Processing, Biomimetics, Welfare devices, and Actuator design.

VASESA Mexico (01/2013 - 04/2018)

I worked for Válvulas de Seguridad SA de CV (VASESA), which is the leader in Mexico in the supply and maintenance of pressure relief valves. It is certified to emit test certificates according to ASME, ISO, and NOM specifications of pressure relieving devices.

Remote Consultant (2018 - Present)

R&D Manager (2014 - 2018)

Manufacture Engineer (2013 - 2014)

Bachelor Student (07/2009 - 12/2013)

I did my undergraduate in Mechatronics Engineering at the ITESM Campus Santa Fe, with specialized studies in Nuclear engineering, advanced microcontrollers, and manufacturing.
